Lightweight concretes
produced on machines made by the SIRCONTEC company and according to its manufacturing procedures belong to a group of concrete with a natural setting (without autoclaving).
There are two main types:
Lightweight concrete (LC) based on a technical foam - PBG Foam Concrete (Cellular Concrete - CLC), and a kind produced based on polystyrene particles – PsB Polystyrene Concrete. Perlite concrete is also used in construction practice.
At the same density, both types are comparable in technical and physical properties, such as compressive strength, thermal conductivity, absorption capacity, and frost resistance.
From the point of view of technical and physical properties, such as compressive strength, thermal conductivity, water absorption and frost resistance, both types are comparable at the same density.
Different technological properties
Regarding technological properties, each category has advantages that determine its utilisation.
SIRCONTEC foam concrete (PBG*) is usually produced as a liquid, perfectly filling any irregularities while allowing for bound and stable levelling and processing, like with self-levelling screeds.
SIRCONTEC polystyrene concrete (PsB*) is usually produced as a thick slurry that significantly facilitates the construction of steeper fall layers of flat roofs, i.e. with a slope greater than 2 %.
SIRCONTEC specialises in lightweight concrete with a density of up to 800 kg/m3 and a 28-day compression strength of up to 3 MPa.
Demonstration of conformity of manufactured LCs
From the point of view of demonstrating conformity, the IV system is used for SIRCONTEC lightweight concretes (LB), i.e., a demonstrative test, by which the application company demonstrates the conformity of the properties of the manufactured SIRCONTEC lightweight concrete with the properties specified in the relevant Technical Sheet. The bulk density value and compressive strength are measured during the evidentiary test.

For the same LC density:
EPS concrete containing virgin EPS beads may achieve a higher strength due to the reduction of drying strain and shrinkage, and may also achieve a lower thermal conductivity than that of FC.
However, the raw material, production, and placing/installation costs of EPS concrete are higher than those of FC.
